Do any of you have a spiritual director? I keep reading that it is a good idea to have one, but I’m not sure how to go about finding one. This issue isn’t mentioned in homilies or bulletins.

A spiritual director is to a Christian what a coach is to an athlete. So I would say that its important to have one. The challenge is trying to find a good one. They don't place ads in classifieds. :)

The best way to find someone is to pray that God will send one to you.

Yup, it’s definitely on the prayer list.

It’s cool to hear that you have one!

I'm looking for one now as well. I had people before, and its very beneficial spiritually to have someone wise to turn to when you need guidance.

i always thought that spiritual director should be a priest or religious brother. but it is quite difficult to find a spiritual director from the laity.

I found 89 discussions about spiritual directors in the Catholic Answers Forum. It’s interesting reading.

I am not Roman Catholic, but in the United Methodist tradition way back into our history is the spiritual discipline practice that becomes the solid foundation for serving in the world. A spiritual director facilitates how another person can be in a place of openness to God and offer to God a deeper prayer, through words, images, metaphors or even song. The role of the Spiritual director is to facilitate and mainly to listen to where the person finds God acting in his/her life, or seems to be absent. God bless you on your journey.
